I worship my kindle, take it everywhere have tons of books on it. Plus it connects to the internet so I read fanfiction on it all the time. I love that I can keep a hand free or eat while I am reading without worrying about smudging pages or losing my place. When I take it into a hot tub to relax, (I have destroyed many a book this way water and paper are unmixy) I put the kindle in a ziplock bag and take it in, since it doesn't need to turn pages and you can still see the screen I find this works nicely and quells my fear of accidentally dropping the darling thing.

It's weird it has taken so long. Are they on back-order because of the holidays? Mine came in like 3-5 days, standard shipping.

Exciting! I obsessively track my Amazon purchases I've loaded up my Kindle with about 10 books, and have fully charged it, so should be right if the power goes out.

It arrived today. Dickheads left it on my door mat. Is it really that much harder to knock on the door?! Anyways, played with it a little.

Urgh, stupid. How are you liking it so far? You can get free public domain books from Project Gutenberg, and Amazon.com also has free books. You will probably want to change your shipping address on your Facebook profile to an American profile (maybe use Bre or Nico's ) so you can access more books. I have also added text files and PDFs to mine, PDFs can be transferred directly, but it's better to use a program like Stanza to save them as Amazon Kindle files. Have fun!

I use kindle app on android phone. Also the borders app (which is kind of buggy crap) on android for some books that amazon refuse to sell me because I live in Australia but borders sell it... sigh.
Benefits of ebooks: 1) With a decent app you can still highlight any text. 2) You can also select text and google it or dictionary search etc. 3) You can save as many bookmarks as you want. 4) NIGHT MODE ROCKS. white text on black screen. Kindle app also lets you turn the brightness RIGHT down so you can read without any eye glare and you cannot annoy/wake up someone next to you as its not like a torch. 5) Far cheaper to buy ebooks than to buy real books. Usually ebook is $13-16 new. Real thing is probably $25-$40 here. 6) You can whip it out anywhere (book!). If you have even two spare minutes you can open any of your books and read some. 7) It's kind of easier to read in noisy/disruptive environments. With a real book someone interrupts you you then have to scan a page or two of text to find out where the hell you were at. Reading on phone theres far less text on the screen - impossible to get lost. Very important if kids interrupt you every 20 dam seconds of your entire life.
I like a shiny great smelling new REAL book - but in all other areas ebooks win for me.

Like I mentioned in my other post my local library just introduced ebooks via library rentals. I don't have a kindle but I have amazon kindle on my touchpad, I must say I didn't know what I was missing, renting library books from bed. Although will still be making our weekend library visits because Emily loves it there!

I change my mind. Kindle (well ebooks ) suck. I pay 9.99 for a book I can't even loan to my friends because the author/publicist haven't opted in? I can buy the physical book and loan it as many bloody times as I want! The only books I can loan are older ones. Even my cheaper books (Delirium) can't be loaned.

Another good thing about Kindle... the kids can't lose my page . With a normal book the kids (more so Jayden now, but Olivia used to do it) pull out my bookmark, pretend to read my book, or if I leave the book open and flipped over on the arm of the couch they knock it onto the floor. One of Raimon's friend also lent me a flash drive full of ebooks so I won't have to buy any for a while.

So I'm against having a kindle because I love reading from an actual book. But recently I'm thinking of getting one now because I'm starting to carry two books around with me now and it's heavy. So I need convincing to get one. Are ebooks cheaper than buying a normal book? If you've bought a normal book, can you download them into the Kindle without needing to buy the ebook? Because I still want to buy books and if I have to pay twice to have that book in my kindle, I don't think I want to get one.

I have a kindle and I never use it. It is great for traveling but even then I prefer to take an actual book. I like turning pages of a book and couldn't get used to the kindle.

Yeah, that's my biggest problem with it - it's not a book with a cover and pages. I don't mind having one for travelling but if I have to pay double for the ebook and a book, I don't think I want to bother with it. But it's fun to play with though and so small and fancy to hold.

You can get some free books and some cheap books but a lot of newer ones are the same price or not a lot of difference to an actual book.

Loved my Kindle, but once I got my iPad I never used it - even though they're very different, I just prefer having it all in one with my iPad. I gave my Kindle to my little brother.
