"Walking To Despair" by QueenC, aka Amber
Summary: This is Anya's POV at the end of "Hell's Bells", when she is walking down the isle, with nothing to look forward to.
Rating: PG
*Disclaimer- Buffy the Vampire Slayer and all characters and events in it are all Joss Whedon's. I merely worship.
Walking To Despair
I looked down the isle, then down at my feet. A tear slid down my cheek.
-Is this really happening? Xander can't just give up on us...not like that...-
I thought about what he had said. I knew that he doesn't want to hurt me...but what did he tink that he was doing right now? This hurt everywhere...my heart, my stomach...another tear slid down my cheek.
-This means he doesn't want to be with me-
As I walked down the isle, my heart was breaking more and more.
-Why did he even propose to me, if he was going to do this?-
I just didn't understand. If he didn't want to be with me, he wouldn't have asked me to marry him in the first place, would he? I saw people staring at me through the corner of my eye...looking at me, with sad expressions on their faces...
Their sadness cannot compare with mine. Wait...mine isn't sadness...it's despair. Way past sadness now...I just can't help it. I've been with Xander for three years. Three years. And it just came to abrupt stop...
-I wish I would disappear off the face of the Earth-
And then I did. It was a strange sensation, but I wasn't startled by it. I didn't really have any other emotion than despair. I looked up, as my tears fell, and saw my old boss, D'hoffryn.
"I have a proposition for you," he said to me, "How would you like your old job back?"
Well, that's basically what he was saying. I don't really remember exactly what he said...I was too numb. All I know for sure is that I said yes. Because, at this point, I had nothing to lose.
-fin-
It is shorter than Spinning into Darkness, but I hope you like it!
