Do you notice the difference? We watch alot of space shows and I think they look really pretty on BR , especially because they have lots of action & explosions! We don't own any BR dvds though . How many do you guys own?

I have no idea how many i own. I bought 8 last week It depends on the movie or show whether or not i bother with the Blu-Ray. Action movies you NEED a BR. There is just no comparison. Harry Potter this week? Definitely a BR!! The King's Speech the next week? Fine to just have a DVD.

I don't see the difference. Granted, I've never bought/watched a BR movie but I've seen it whenever I pass by TVs that show them in shops and I don't see the difference.

If I had a Blu-ray player, that's all I'd buy (except for romantic comedies and the like). They're really not that much more expensive, and the higher quality just makes the movies even better. I buy blu-ray now even without the blu-ray player just because they have more special features so I'll just watch them at a friend's house or something. I'm hoping to get a BR player soon!

They have come down a lot at least so hopefully you buy one soon mate The triple packs (BR, DVD + Digital) are handy to have i find. And not that much more pricey. I'm going to try getting one from Amazon to see if the US BR's play on my player. I guess its unlikely being a Sony

We don't have a BR player either. Would like to get one for the living room but it would have to be region unlocked (since I brought all of my PAL dvd's with me) do they make region unlocked BL players? Our dvd player in the living room is multi region -thankgod- .

I don't have a Blue-Ray player either, so I can't say if I'd notice any difference. Even if I did have one, I don't have a high-definition TV... so I'm afraid most of its advantages would be wasted. And anyway I'm not getting one until I'm sure I can find a region-free one. I hate those limitations that manufacturers try to impose on customers!

A question:
Are Blu-Ray players able to play DVDs or do they just play Blu-Ray discs?

They didn't have back tech originally which was pretty stupid Mine plays anything from any region so it's most handy.

Ah good to know! The Blu-Ray players are pretty cheap here and I though of maybe getting myself one. Not that there's anything wrong with my current DVD player but I wouldn't mind getting one that plays both if it's cheap.

Plays any DVD from anywhere. No player is meant to be multi region. I've heard its best to test it though because a lot of BRD's are actually region free (despite what their packaging says) depending on the studio releasing it.
But my player is a Sony.
