One of my favourites www.imdb.com/title/tt0111257/Speed is a 1994 American action-thriller film directed by Jan de Bont, and set in Los Angeles. An LAPD officer, Police Officer Jack Traven, becomes the focus of a bomber and extortionist, retired Atlanta bomb squad sergeant, Howard Payne. After Payne escapes his first entanglement with Traven, he sets up a bomb on a city bus that Traven boards and must keep moving above 50 miles per hour or the bomb will explode. The film stars Keanu Reeves, Dennis Hopper, Sandra Bullock and Jeff Daniels. It won two Academy Awards for Best Sound and Best Sound Effects at the 67th Academy Awards in 1995.

You did this for my birthday right Nico? One of my faves too. Would hate to think how many times I've seen it over the years Kicked off the Keanu adoration that continues to this day. And I liked Sandra from this, and she remains one of my favourite actresses. Will do a more detailed post when I'm not getting ready for work but it's a classic action film IMO. Never let's up from start to finish and had me chewing two straws to oblivion in the theatre Oh we all know who script doctored this gem yes? One Mr Joss Whedon.

I liked this movie but wouldn't say it was one of the best I've seen.
I love Sandra Bullock in this movie though.

They ruined her character so badly in sequel. Which to this day I've only seen once. I presented Speed in my 'Introduction to Hollywood' tute my first year of uni. My profs comment when done, "Miss Hillier, just how many times have you seen this film?"

I didn't know Joss was involved either, that's pretty cool. What about it did you guys dislike? Loz, this movie started my love for KR and this movie also made SB my favourite actress. I always thought they had some great chemistry onscreen. I will rewatch it when Emily goes to bed but I do remember that I love everything about this movie, the flirty moments between the characters, the look on the bomb detectives face when he realizes they were set up & the bomb explodes, after they escape the bus and we get the long awaited kiss we are hit by more action! and Dennis Hopper as the bad guy, it was perfect. The sequel was horrible, I hate how they couldn't have KR so they had a new man in her life, it was like they were taking all of the great moments between them away!.

Argh I hated the sequel! Why did SB do it?! Keanu was smart.

I disliked it mostly because of the acting and storyline. I'm not a big fan of action movies just for the sake of action though.

Poor Harry Jeff Daniels is great in this movie. Jack's response to Payne is awesome when he finds out, "I'm going to rip your f**king spine out, i swear to god". I laugh every single time Jack is checking out the bomb and Stephens is relaying the convo- "f**k me!".... "Oh darn." Annie rocks. She drives like a champ, doesn't take shit and is not a chippy damsel in distress. And hell, what a line is, "We'll just have to base it on sex then." Keanu is at his hottest with the shaved head and those lovely just perfect muscular arms shown off in the white t-shirt The looks he gives Annie get me everytime. First when he is holding the gun to Payne when he discovers she is strapped up with the bomb and then on the train. The moment where she collapses down, he speeds up the train and comes back and sits down with her? We used to watch that in slow-mo

I liked the storyline and I enjoy this movie, but I agree on the acting - of Keanu anyway. I have never found him to be a great actor and this movie was no exception. I don't think he is terrible, but I can't think of one movie he is actually believable in a role other than the Matrix and even there its not fabulous. I've never had it ruin a movie though, I love several movies he is in. And Sandra Bullock and the supporting actors were great in this. I will watch it tonight since we own it.

Keanu was a lot more interesting in this movie than in any other movie I've watched of it. Even then, he should be glad that the storyline was interesting or I wouldn't have watch this one more than once. He's definitely not my favourite actor. Might watch this over the weekend when I go and get some movies out.

Alright I watched this after watching a really bad movie (the new Gulliver's Travels) so this one wouldn't look so bad. And I did like it better this time than the first time I watched it. Keanu was still really bad, acting-wise. He was cute, but terrible acting. Sandra Bullock was funny. I would have reacted the same way she was throughout the whole charade: constantly asking questions and just her freaking out and stuff. I didn't like the reasons behind Dennis Hopper's character's craziness. He just seemed crazy for the sake of crazy. And I really hate car chase scenes and that's really all this movie was so it's really not my type of movie. So overall, I'd give it a 5/10.

He was pissed off because he got his hand blown up working on the Atlanta PD bomb squad, and they fired him after the accident. Put him on pension. I don't see how he was crazy for the sake of being crazy. He had motivation and motive.

I love SB's reaction to the scene she thinks she hits a baby pram, even though there is a bomb on the bus she takes her hands from the wheel because she is so distraught, I thought it was a great show of humanity.
I think most terrorists are crazy for the sake of being crazy. Payne had a reason HE truly believed in, he truly believed he had been punished by the police after serving for all those years.
I also thought the scene we see the first bus blow up was very well written, we see Jack talking to the driver shortly before so we see he was a pretty good friend of Jacks.

I agree with Loz and Nico, he felt he had given them his life and they threw it in his face. Add that to the things he probably saw in his job and it is plausible to me.

I looked up IMDB for some facts and read that Ellen Degeneras was going to play Annie originally .
Let's not forget KR did almost all of his own stunts in this movie!

A long interview with Joss, he talks about his involvement with Speed. Good read.
