I think this deserves its own thread.

Earlier it was reported:
“As part of that deal, Whedon will write and direct Marvel’s The Avengers 2 as well as help develop a new live action series for Marvel Television at ABC. He will also contribute creatively to the next phase of Marvel’s cinematic universe.”

Now it has a name...

We now have a name for the live-action Marvel comics project being developed by geek god Joss Whedon for ABC. Or, make that an acronym: S.H.I.E.L.D.

A covert, quasi-military peace-keeping organization, S.H.I.E.L.D. (or the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division) was featured in this summer’s Avengers movie, which was penned and directed by Whedon, as well as in myriad Marvel comic books.

Although it has not been detailed which Marvel characters will be featured in the TV take, on the big screen, Samuel Jackson’s eye-patched Nick Fury oversaw the org as well as a somewhat motley (yet quite mighty) crew populated by the disparate likes of Captain America, the Hulk, Black Widow, Tony Stark and Thor.

The S.H.I.E.L.D. series will be written by Whedon, his bother Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen, our sister site Deadline reports, with Joss tentatively set to direct the pilot. Production is expected to get underway immediately.

I am really excited by this, it has just started filming and is starring Agent Coulson. Set after the film so it will be interesting how that fits in.

Seeing as though everyone is so keen on this, I take it I am the only one who really didn't like the character of Maria Hill in the movie and thought Cobie pretty much blew?

I didn't mind her. She wasn't the worst thing but she wasn't the best either.

I liked it. Enjoyed the familiar faves too. How good to see Book alive and well! JAR looks old. Made me feel old I'm assuming it was like i mentioned in the Avengers thread with Coulson being put in another body or something..... I have requested a flying corvette for Christmas

I liked it but other than Coulson I didn't warm to any of the characters. I'm hoping I will though.

Character wise the second episode was a lot better, but I still don't care about the characters that much. Other than Coulson of course who I love. Loved the appearance of Samuel L Jackson and it gives me hope they will get other big names to guest star in an episode (unfortunately Thor seems unlikely but the others... here's hoping!) Melinda May is the one I want to learn more about.

I loved seeing SLJ, too! It was a good episode (it got a little too into the action at times, though). I like seeing how the core group will interact throughout the season.
