BESTSELLING author JK Rowling is writing a new movie based on the wizarding world of Harry Potter.

The new film, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, which is named after a textbook that boy wizard Harry Potter studies, will follow the adventures of the textbook's author, Newt Scamander.

It will be Rowling’s screenwriting debut and is planned to be the first in a new series of films with Warner Brothers, which the movie studio hopes will follow the success of the Harry Potter movie franchise, which earned $US7.7 billion worldwide.

I am very stoked about this. ;D I have no doubts it will be great, especially since JK is writing the screenplay.

Why in New York? Bah. I'd be happier if it was set 30 years before the HP series and see Lupin, James, Sirius and co. But if she is doing one maybe it will lead to that eventually....
