Hey guys and gals I just purchased and read 'i am legend' as I always enjoy reading books that have then been translated onto the big screen. I was really surprised at how different the book was, the only thing that was even remotely similar was the fact that the main character was alone. However, he wasn't a scientist trying to find a cure, the vampires weren't just savage creatures and he didn't go around chatting up mannequins. It focused more on his loneliness, despair and his methodical approach to exterminating the vampires.
I really enjoyed the book, probably more than I enjoyed the film. Has anyone else here read a novel because you have seen the film and been surprised at just how different it was. Also does anyone have any recommendations?

Not a movie, but several TV shows are very different to the books. True Blood, Legend of the Seeker. After the first season neither even tried to go alongside the books. I preferred the books of Legend of the Seeker, but True Blood is better than the books (well seasons 1-3 are).

I've never watched true blood but my other half has a slight obsession going on. Just started reading world war z. It's already started off completely different.

I think the only book-to-film movie that was better than the book was Perks of Being a Wallflower. Saw the movie first then read the book and I didn't enjoy the book all that much. The movie was way better. The Hunger Games did/does a good job of translating book to film as well. But really, there aren't many book-to-film movies out there that do justice to the book. I know it's Hollywood and you need to change certain things for the movie but I HATE it when they change too many things. It feels like the movie is being disrespectful to the book (even with the author's ok with the changes). Maybe it's just me but I"m a bit OCD when it comes to this sort of thing. I need the movie to follow the books exactly.
