I haven't been reading an awful lot lately, so people come and recommend me some books! I like Crime books mostly, any books about vampires, and thrillers and mysterys. Not a fan of romance books bah. So recommend some books and tell me why I should read them

I recommend The Andromeda Strain by Michael Creighton. It was hard thinking of a book since me and you are of different age groups, but all different ages in my family love Michael Creighton and his work. The Andromeda Strain is a thriller about the investigation of a deadly disease. It was a very good read, though I don't really remember it too well .

Hmmm I've never read any of his books though my grandmother is a big fan. Is there one not about a deadly disease?

Yeah, he writes a lot. I heard "Next" (which is about genetics) and State of Fear (which is about terrorists) were good too.

I need someone to recommend me a book too. I like thrillers or books on the supernatural (anything Buffy/Angel-like). I don't mind romance though not the ones where it's all sex and no story. So, yes, do recommend me a book as I'm bored!

Beck, Michael Crichton also wrote some medical books. "A Case of Need" is about an investigation of a girl who died from an abortion(back when abortion was illegal). It's pretty good. He also wrote one called "Air Frame", but I don't know what that's about. There's also a book called "The Historian", which sounds really boring, but is actually pretty interesting. It's a vampire book, kinda revolving around Vlad the Impaler, on whom the vampire myths are based. Shred, you'd probably like that one too. My sister and my mom liked it, but I haven't finished it yet. 1/5

I started reading 'The Historian' a long time ago - last summer I think and loved how far I got. Haven't finished it though but it'll be the first book I read this summer.
(And they're making it into a film so I've heard ...)

Oh my gosh, Bre, that's so crazy. I started it last summer and haven't finished it yet, and plan to finish it this summer. We're book buddies! Oooo that would be an interesting movie. 3/5

I highly recommend both Twilight & New Moon. Vampire/human love story. Gah. I love it.
Also, A Great and Terrible Beauty & Rebel Angels are part of a trilogy (as Twilight & New Moon are). It's set in the Victorian-age, and has magic in it, and I am really bad at summarizing...I'll have to find the summary for you.

Yep. It's a really, really good series (well, trilogy) so far. I cannot wait for August, because the third book (Eclipse) comes out.

I'm going to reccomend these:
We Need to Talk About Kevin- Lionel Shriver. It's about a school massacre and is written from the perspective of the killer's mother. Very good.
Middlesex - Jeffrey Eugenides. A complicated tale of a young girl who grows into a man. "I was born twice: first, as a baby girl, on a remarkably smogless Detroit day in January of 1960; and then again, as a teenage boy, in an emergency room near Petoskey, Michigan, in August of 1974." Extremely good, very very well written.
The Memory Keeper's Daughter - Kim Edwards. A storm forces a doctor to deliver his own twins. His son, born first, is perfectly healthy, but the doctor recognizes that his daughter has Down's syndrome. He makes a decision that that changes their lives - he asks his nurse to take the baby away to an institution. Instead, she disappears and raises the baby as her own. (This is all on the back cover so I'm not spoiling!).

Ahh Gotcha, I also Recommend Vampire Kisses by Ellen Schrebiber it's kind of Similar to Twilight only About a young goth girl who falls in love with a vampire named Alexander Sterling. But another Series I recommend is Maximum Ride By James Paterson there's two books so far The Angel Experiment, I forgot the name of book two.

I've been reading a series called "The Noble Dead" by Barb and JC Hendee. There described as "A mix of the Lord of the Rings and Buffy the Vampire Slayer". There not bad, if a little light. The first book is called "Dhampir" followed by "Thief of Lives", "Sister of the Dead", "Traitor to the Blood", "Rebel Fay" and "Child of a Dead God" is out in hardcover I believe.

I'm in your shoes Beck, I bought Twilight on Saturday and read the whole thing on Sunday, and Blood Noir by Laurell K hamilton (I'm a bit lost with this one). Have you read anything by kathy Reichs? Raimon has 3 books but I haven't read them yet.

I've been meaning to give Kathy Reichs' books a try when I heard that it was her books that inspired Bones but never got around to it. Must do one day. At the moment, I have a few books with me to keep me entertained till Christmas.

Has anyone here read this trilogy by David Wellington? 1 - 13 Bullets 2 - 99 Coffins 3 - Vampire Zero
I bought Vampire Zero without realising it was the 3rd book. Dymocks Paranormal section was unimpressive and a lot of the series ones had book 1 unavailable. I was lucky enough to find "Guilty Pleasures" by Laurell K Hamilton (book 1 of her series), and after a checking online I realised why "Blood Noir" had me so confused, it was book 16.
I might have to start ordering online....hmmm.
