Should they have hooked them up in the movie? What are your thoughts on this could have been couple?

Yeah. They could have made the movie longer and including the love thing. Unless they're planning to do something else with the 'verse then as long as they include it later, it's okay.

Mm, I'm not that fussed with this pairing, I'm glad the focus was on Simon/Kaylee. Though I do think they would make a good couple...they would have fought a lot.

I would have liked to see them get together. I think the characters were just begging for it and I know that a lot of the fans wanted it. I, personally, loved the pairing. And I think it would have been one of the more realistic ones in all the Jossverse, given the amounts of tension their personalities caused when they were together.

I think it would have given us a chance to see them together for once if they did. But Joss had to be stubborn so we didn't get to, which sucks. I'm hoping for a sequel to Serenity, but it probably won't happen. Meh, you never know, though.

I think they would have made a great couple, but I really like their interplay where they're not quite sure how they, and think that it worked well for the show. They robably would have become less interesting if they became the "happy couple"

I'd love to see them in a realtionship and if there is a second movie it needs to be included. The characters have such a great spark together its a shame not to utilize it. Plus I'd love to see what Mal is like in a relationship, we've seen how protectinve and 'big brotherly' towards his crew it would be interesting to see how he would change when alone with Inara

I suspect that Mal'd be a terrible boyfriend. He'd love her with all his heart, but he wouldn't want to admit it, and would be deliberately immature to escape expressing himself.

It would be interesting to see how these two progress as a couple. Both of them are stubborn in their own way and I can't see Mal being the perfect boyfriend. But with that said, I'm glad that Joss didn't have them hook up in the movie. I like the sexual tension between these two. Mal fumbling around whenever he is in Inara's presence is amusing to watch.

I also see Mal being a very hard boyfriend to deal with And what would it mean for Inara's career? I cant see Mal dating a girl who is sleeping with other men!

I can't see Inara giving up her career, unless Mal had some absolutely wonderful job for her instead.

I think she'd give up her job for Mal. Jayne wouldn't be happy, though.

I don't. She wouldn't want to be a kept woman imo. She's quite independent and I can't see her just hanging out the ship with the crew all day.

I don't think it comes down to being a "kept woman". It's something she'd do of her own volition, rather than feeling pressured into it.

Sure, but I can't see her giving up work just to hang around the ship. She'd want to keep working and be win Mal.

Be win Mal, huh? I definitely agree that she'd want to work, and be separate from the ship, but I do think that she'd change her line of work out of respect for him.

Shush, typo! Yeah she might change her job a bit, but not quit entirely.

I got to agree with Liz. I doubt she would quit her job to be with Mal. And I don't think Mal would have want her to keep her job. Do we know whether Inara likes what she does? I can't seem to remember whether she does or not.

She seems to glorify what she does, and thinks she's above "regular" prostitutes. I don't think she hates it.
And I don't think she'd see it as quitting her job to be with Mal. If they ended up together, I think she'd reevaluate her job, knowing that it would be a difficult situation for the two of them.

I could see her quitting. Or at least trying out their relationship without her job. As for being apart of the ship, we've seen many times that Inara loves "Serenity" ad the crew, so why is it hard to believe she'd stay?
