Are they the same person? I know its never confirmed, but its certainly alluded to at times. What do you all think?

Ah, I remember hearing something on one of the commentaries. I'm assuming they were the same because when Halfreck came into the house and Spike was there she recognized him as William. And Vengeance Demons do change their names after they became demons (Aud-- to Anya -- to Anyanka), so it is possible that Cecily changed her name to Halfreck when she became a Vengeance Demon, or that's what I like to believe, because it was never really stated if she was Cecily.

Yeh thats one thing that I'd liked to have seen explained by Joss.
It was explained in the book 'These Our Actors' which centered around William/Spike and Cecily, and if I remember right it was because of her Fathers interfearing in her life that Cecily became a vengence demon

Of course she is. Its the same actress so i figure its the same character. Also her reaction to Spike in that crap episode in Season 6 where Dawn is a pain in the ass.

I agree that she Cecily is Halfrek, but just because she was the same actor does not mean that she is the same person Loz, Andrew played a vampire minion before he became Andrew.

Yep very true... many actors playing different parts
But it is quite funny for the two of them
Would have liked to have seen hallfreks full potential instead of a solid background for anya

I think Anya's background was really needed, she'd been a regular for a long time before she got it explained.
Although it would have been nice to see more of Halfreks story it would have been oddly placed unless Joss was going to bring her in more

Yeah but he was in vamp face so you couldn't tell it was him mate. And i don't think theres been many other repeats on the same show.....

And there Tom Lenk was clearly playing two seperate characters. Cecily and Halfrek were hinted at being the same character - and they were clearly the same actress, not major changes in makeup (other than Halfreks demon face)

Yeah but he was in vamp face so you couldn't tell it was him mate. And i don't think theres been many other repeats on the same show..... Lots of actors doubled up: Brian Thompson played both Luck + the Judge Camden Toy has played D'Hoffrin, a Gentelman + something else but I can't remember Few have crossed over to Angel aswell Anyway I don't think they'd be a doubt that Cecile and Halfrek are the same person. perhaps her character would be explored more if there was a one off Anya movie or something

One of the most obvious crossove people was Jonathon M Woodward who played Knox an Angel season 5 and also Webster the vampire who gave Buffy good advice before being dusted in Conversations With Dead People and he appeared without make-up in both. He also played an old army buddy of Mals in Firefly but thats off topic lol Another was Ken in Buffy season 3 "Anne" and The guy who was going to marry Doyle's ex. I know they are different shows but they are the same 'Verse so it is possible.

SAME SHOW!!! I was talking same show. Could you tell Brian Thompson was under the blueness that was The Judge? No. Could you tell who the actor was playing D'Hoffryn? No. There is a shitload who have been on more than one series. Hell Mal became Caleb and Zoe became Jasmine! And yes JMW was on all three.... I have seen the show a LOT, i'm not some vague casual viewer.

I think they were the same character. Halfrek recognised Spike in 'Older and Far Away'...

Halfrek mentions to Anya about "that thing during the Crimean War"
That war was in 1853 and Spike was turned in 1880
So if Cecily and Halfrek are one and the same then the only explanation is that Cecily WAS Halfrek at the time of her "You're beneath me" speech.
Also there was recently a Joss approved graphic novel about Spike that states Cecily WAS Halfrek at that time.
Is that Canon though, make your own minds up lol

wow you come up with that youself Glenn or find it somewhere? Its interesting because nothing I've read before has even considered that Cecily was Halfrek at the time she met Spike
Or perhaps Cecily was just an alias so that she could blend in better??
As for the joss aproved Comic- I wouldn't call it cannon unless Joss himself has said or written it, there's always the possibility that they are just saying that its Joss aproved when its not really

Tash, Cecily being a pseudonym Halfrek used to fit in better makes quite a bit of sense. I imagine she would use different names in different centuries/places to fit in better. Aud was Anya's human name, right, and Anyanka her demon one? It's possible that Cecily was Halfrek's human name (although why there'd be such a noticeable difference between the two names I can't explain) and she used it every now and again as a cover.
I always thought they were the same person but couldn't find a way to justify it until I read Tash's idea.

why thank you Although one thing that I just thought of was that William seemed to have known Cecily for quite a while- and this is backed up by the book. So it doesn't seem to me to be in a vengance demons nature to stick around for all that long, I'd consider them to just get in- get the job done- get out again perhaps it was just a dates slip, maybe the writer we're coming up for a backstory with Anya and Cecily and though "wouldn't it be cool if they we're at the Crimean War" without really thinking through the dates. Its happened before with birthdays, nobody knows for sure when Buffy's birthday is

That's true. It wouldn't be the first inconsistency to slip past the writers. I, however, like to think that Cecily and Halfrek were one in the same and there's some backstory there between her and Spike that we haven't been told yet. But maybe that's just my imagination running wild. (I understand that there's a comic out along these same lines, or one that will be coming out shortly, but I don't care for the comics, so don't tend to count what they present as possibilities in my opinions.)
