Is it just me, or did several of the characters in Angel Season 5 seem to...change? Spike, of course was treated horribly by the writers. We've discussed that somewhat already. But what about Angel? He became thoroughly dislikeable in Season 5. He was even grumpier and broodier than usual, he treated everyone pretty shabbily and generally I hated him that season. Not to mention having Buffy spyed on by his 'people' in 'The Girl in Question'. That is disgusting behaviour to me, but is it out of character? I'm not sure on that one, but in any case for some reason Angel just is...horrible, in Season 5. There are a few exceptions, as there are to everything. I loved him in Smile Time for example. As a puppet lol. But its not just Angel. Someone mentioned in one thread the underuse of Lorne. And that Cordy never came back. And Gunn. Well, his whole personality really did get a transplant. So who agrees, and who thinks I'm nitpicking?

Agree will all of the above.
His classes of 'necrophiliacs anonymous' don't seem to be working. He went back to his habits of spying on the girls 230 years younger than him.

yeh I don't think the spying on Buffy was out of character, he's done it plenty of times before.
I did say that Lorne was very underused, if fact a few times it was hard to remember that he was even there!!. I can understand why Charisma wasn't there , she had just had a baby + I really liked her send out.
Angel yeh he was more unlikeable but I think that was the result of being surrounded by so much evil + temptation + he'd lost Connor. So I'd forgive him for all that.
Gunn obviously a complete transformation but I think it was necessary for him to get another dimension, but I didn't really like how internal he became about everything- with the old Gunn you knew where you stood all the time.
Wes stayed pretty the same + so did Fred until she became Illeria. Spike well I have to say I didn't notice as much at 1st but lately its been show in America + I can see where people get annoyed, + he does almost become a little child again just because of his interaction with Angel. i would have loved to see more between Spike + Fred because he could be more real with her.

I know Angel has spied on Buffy in the past, but surely by this stage he's learnt its not a good way to go? I just find him thoroughly unlikeable in season 5. even more so than he is on BtVS

well I can see Becks point, because he is very distanced + more cutting in season 5. I think the writers had too much to concentrate on in season 5 + ended up going off track.

I actually like Angel a lot in seasons 1-4 on his own show. And there are times he is ok on BtVS he's just boring. Though nice eyecandy. Angelus is far better. But in season 5 I really don't like him

I love Angel but i have to admit there were times in Series 5 that he annoyed the s**t out of me. It is, as the thread suggests, like he had a personality transplant. I think a lot of this had to do with David. I think he was bored and was no longer being challenged in the role. But he was bloody great as a puppet! Oh and i think him spying on Buffy wasn't all that out of character and i don't find it disgusting at all. I really don't have an issue with the fact that he is 200+ years old. I don't know what the big deal with that whole thing is people....
I've talked about the Spike situation before so i'm not going to repeat myself except to say that the writers went back on everything that he had become and i was not happy.
Lorne was underused. Wes was much the same but his Fred obsession was a tad annoying. Fred was the same till obviously Illyria took over. Harmony was as annoyingly good as ever. Lindsey was different for me - but in a good way. They gave him more layers. Eve should have never existed- damn i hate that character.

now Eve didn't really annoy me for some reason! I dunno why but I just kind of accepted her on face value, that said however she aint no Lilah I don't think any female character could supass her for season 5! Hamilton was great but the fact that he's a man + his figure is so imposing that goes a long way to the strength of the character.

It wasn't that everyone was out of character, it was just a lame season. Eve was a waste of space. She was cute, but annoying. I missed Cordelia, and Lorne should have been used more. Spike should never have crossed over. He added nothing good to the cast.

Eve was heinous and is probably my most hated character in the whole Jossverse. It was badly cast too - Sarah Thompson was just very wrong for the role. I wouldn't call the season lame but its definitely not my favourite by a long shot.

What are the good parts of the season? One or two good episodes. I would call it lame

Well i love Smile Time, You're Welcome, Damage, Destiny, Power Play and Not Fade Away..... I thought what they did with Wes from Lineage onwards was really great. Alexis was brilliant. The death of Fred was not something i expected and was handled well, especially Illyria's change in the last few episodes. And speaking of the last few episodes i have to say i really enjoyed them. While Not Fade Away wasn't near as good as Chosen i tought it was a fairly fitting end to characters i've loved for many years. There is no other way they could go out but fighting....

The last half of the season was OK. And there were some great episodes. But overall it was just not good. I hated Spike being there. He monopolised enough of Season 7 Buffy and then they put him on Angel to boost ratings. And then they changed the character. Too many great characters were wasted.

I don't think Spike monopolised Season 7 of Buffy. I thought Season 7 Spike was brilliant. The way they changed his character when they bought him onto Angel s**t me to tears. It was really like none of the ATS writers had watched Buffy for the proceeding three years!

Spike didn't monopolise Season 7? The whole thing was about Spike. It bored me to tears.

Well i thought Spike was in it the perfect amount myself . From Season 2 he was my favourite character and i thought his character arc was fabulous. I was most certainly NOT bored to tears by anything he did. You know who bored me to tears.... Buffy. I ended up really not a fan of Buffy. Her whole 'Poor me for being the Chosen one', 'Poor me for being dead and in heaven' and 'Poor me for having a f**king hot vampire in love with me' bit really got on my nerves.

Buffy has always been annoying. Spike was a great character when he was evil. Then he became so soppy and pathetic.

Not soppy and pathetic Shaun, strong and passionate more like it. Spike was awesome when he was evil and he was awesome when he was not so evil. He was, and always will be one of my favourite TV characters.

Strong and passionate? Are you serious? Look at him wimpering around in Season 4 when he couldn't kill anyone. Then in season 5 he was so mopey around Buffy, he wasn't strong. Look at Crush. He was pathetic. He almost grew a pair in season 6 but then he got his soul and was a cowering pathetic excuse of a vampire. He couldn't even kill any demons. Buffy said it herself, he was useless. He was soppy and pathetic. Yes, I am deliberately trying to bait you
