Excellent stuff, Paul.
So all the PS2 games are compatible? I thought it was a similar scenario to the 360, where "most" games were?

Paul I am saddened and sickened you would pay that for a PS3! , I paid that for a roundtrip ticket to america last year! , I dont care much about the graphics though , or online play, so maybe thats why Im byist against PS3, in my opinion the only thing they have over me is they have Square-Enix aka, final fantasy but Nintendo is in talks to get some good ol skool style FF games on there console. I noticed that the PS3's are in plenty supply, I was in asda and they actually had like 50, sitting in the shop, I remember trying to get my brothers Wii, after they were released, a waiitng list of 2 months!.

Yeah, apparently the PS3 hasn't been selling very well, though I think a lot of that is to do with the price.

To me it seems like greedyness, they will make there money with online features/games/add ons, extra memory cards, joypads etc; .
I would be interested to see ho much it actually cost to *Build* a PS3 ,

I don't know how much of it is greediness, actually. It could be a part of it, but my understanding is that most of the cost is attributed to the BluRay DVD. That said, they could be using that as an excuse to jack up the price. I know that when Microsoft released the original Xbox, they were reporting losses on the console. Basically, they were making their money elsewhere... Or, Microsoft was misleading the public (what? Microsoft misleading? Never! ).

I know that it did in the first week of sales in Japan. As for everywhere else, or in latter weeks, I'm not so sure.

I think people are kind of starting to backlash against technology, as well. They're starting to realise that technology isn't everything. Which probably plays a bit in the Wii's somewhat surprising success.
When the PS2 hit, it was one of the cheaper DVD players on the market, and really increased DVD sales. It's interesting to see that the PS3 hasn't had this kind of impact.
It'll be interesting to see whether Blu-Ray or HD DVD comes out on top of the hi-def DVD wars. It may end up being a deciding factor as to whether the PS3 or 360 come out on top here.

The PS3 looks like a big waste of money to me

I guess it depends on how much your thirst for new technology is.
Personally, the PS3 to me is just like any other console, except very expensive, (Obviously it isnt the same) but to me it is.
I play the Wii in the morning and I leave tired out, Computer games should be going along nintendos path, getting kids jumping around whilst playing them, more healthy not fancy technology that 10 year olds can break easily, PS3 is obviously pointed more at adults, I wouldnt leave a 10 year old alone with something that expensive.

I'd be cautious about leaving a ten year old with one, too. But then, I'm not very trusting of ten year olds. The Wii and the PS3 (and the 360 can probably be grouped here too) do aim for very different markets. The PS3 and 360 are aimed at "older", more "serious" gamers, where they like to show what they can do. Nintendo took a risk with the Wii, figuring they'd go a different route, for something that's more "fun".

I know my brother wants one and plans to buy one when he gets paid, im trying to put him off it, but he is into all that HD/graphics crap, Hd is great dont get me wrong, but im happy with regular viewing. I remember the good ol days computers were for kids to have fun, and adults could have fun to, I wonder if/when the PS3 will drop its prices. its that same old story, sell 100 units for 450 quid each, or 1000 units for 250 each (Ofc I made those numbers up though )

The PS3's price will definitely drop. I'd expect it to drop a little in around six months, then a bit more in a year or so. That said, the 360's barely dropped in the year it's been available in Australia now, which is odd...

I wonder if the 360 are making enough sales to keep there prices the same, or practically the same, are they making a new console? , the 360 was/is powerful, Would be very interested to see what they do to "up the anty" .

All they've really done to up the ante is release a HD DVD drive to compete with the PS3's BluRay (and the combo still works out cheaper). For all intents and purposes, with the HD, both machines are just about equal in power. The 360 has an advantage in that it was released a year earlier, giving it a head start in the "next gen" wars. And it rocks, because, you know, I have one.

Perfect Dark Zero is awesome, Nico. That said, when my original 360 died, I lost my saved games and never picked it up again out of frustration (I was almost through it). It's sitting and waiting for me to get motivated to work my way through it again. And how awesome is Halo 3 looking? Less than a month until I can play the beta!

I have never played Halo , I think because it was so spoken about I lost interest lol, though I prefer more role-play type games, the main reason I play other types is when playing with my Brother, or grand theft auto because its awesome I was playing guitar hero for the PC, (Well its called Frets on Fire, Its free to!), Really fun, if anyone downloads it to try, I have lots of extra songs, and Yay, My goal is to get a perfect on black sabbaths war pigs! I played some more of Crackdown on the 360 to, but kept dying , and I am still stuck on Twilight princess for the Wii, grrr
