Well with season 8 it's just like the episodes. Not every one was written by Joss, but it's still considered canon.

Definitely, and Joss is still acting as "head writer", telling the others what he wants to achieve. That said, there is a bit of comics talent writing, rather than Buffy creators. Brian K Vaughan's great, though - he's written some amazing comics, not to mention Lost.

Looks like plans may have changed slightly with issues, etc. At Comic Con, Joss said that he'll be doing two stand alone issues in between Brian K Vaughan and Drew Goddard.

I haven't read alot of the other BtVS comics because they're not canon. I'm sure there are some great stories but I just don't feel that they can necessarily be true to the characters without Joss' supervision.
That having been said I've been very happy with these episodes and have been pleasantly surprised with how well BtVS is melding into the comic book platform.

A few of them have been written by some of the writers from the show, and Joss wrote and supervised Tales of the Vampires/Slayers, and those aren't technically canon. So, even though the stories aren't officially canon, I think they can be true to the characters, as long as you have writers who know what they're doing.
As for Season 8, I agree that it's been working well. So far, so good, even with the issue (so far) that Joss hasn't written.

I should really check some season 8 stuff out, but I dunno, Canon has never really appealed to me .

I haven't read the last two issues of season 8 yet. I haven't really cared to go out of my way to buy them but I just don't have time. In a couple weeks I'm going to the comic book shop to catch up on what I've missed lately.
You should give them a go, Nico. The first couple of issues are different, but it's good to see the characters again. And this Faith plot seems pretty good.

I should really check some season 8 stuff out, but I dunno, Canon has never really appealed to me . So you'd rather than read something that isn't canon? Or you're not wanting to read it because it's not the show, regardless of canon? The series has been great - it still manages to keep the essence of the show, even with the different format. As Bre said, the first couple of issues are a little different, but it might be worth picking up the trade paperback collecting #s 1-5 - when you read the first four issues together, they really play out nicely. I haven't read the last two issues of season 8 yet. I haven't really cared to go out of my way to buy them but I just don't have time. In a couple weeks I'm going to the comic book shop to catch up on what I've missed lately. They sell out really quickly here, I hope you don't have the same problem, Bre. That said, you can probably always get the shop to put them away for you for when you can make it in.

There are a couple of interviews online after the events of #12. Be warned, if you haven't read it (and intend to) they do contain spoilers. Interview with JossInterview with Scott Allie (the editor)The Scott Allie interview confirms, however, that Fray does feature in a story arc. The interviews confirm that season 8 will indeed finish at #40, with every arc but one having the writers cast. The list is below:

So I've caught up with the season, read all 15 issues. I must say that I'm enjoying it a lot more than I first did. I'm reading it in a transcript format so that could be why I'm enjoying it. It's a lot easier to follow in my opinion. My favourite arc has to be the Faith one and the last one (Wolf at the Gates). I'm looking forward to the next issue. ;D
