No offense guys, but is it really that hard to follow a recipe?

Apparently it is, Lexie. Aside from misreading quantities, I can follow the recipe exactly (or so I think), and have it come out entirely wrong.

I found out I can cook tuna pasta bake! Even if the sauce is out of a jar, I can still 'cook' it. Yay!!!! I can't cook much else though. I am learning slowly though because I have had to cook dinner everynight for the past two weeks.

No offense guys, but is it really that hard to follow a recipe? Honestly, I followed it exactly. I don't know what happened, but it didn't work. I have made awesome chocolate cake before though, so I'm not a complete failure.

I tend to think the best cooks are people who don't follow recipes and experiment

yeh but for that you need to atleast know the basics. Takes practice too. when I moved house I bought a few new cook books and tried atleast one new recipie each week. Its a good way to learn and stops you getting bored of the same food

My cousin and I were talking about that. We can both follow recipes pretty well, although sometimes they don't turn out exactly right, but we don't think we could just take some ingredients and turn them into something on our own. I think each person has a preference, but it's probably good if you can do a little of both.

The only experimenting I'm ever willing to consider is mucking around with ingredients with a recipe I have in front of me...

I can cook, in fact I wanted to be a chef at one point in my life. I like watching cooking shows and looking for reciepes and the like.

I can cook, and it's loads of fun. In sweden we don't have thanksgiving but me being a total junkie for the american traditions I started having thanksgiving at my place about 3 years ago, so that's a big challenge to do. Thankfully it's just me and my family, so we're just four people, but still, loads of work and preperation. Although now it's great after I moved because I have a bigger kitchen and all so I can move around with the food and all easier.

I'd love to have Thanksgiving - turkey is delicious and I hardly ever get to have it roasted.

We usually have turkey on new years too, so if I didn't have thanksgiving I'd still get it but this is so much better, now I get it twice I just find it a big challenge every years to try and make the same things as there is on the american tables, I usually miss something or I try out different kinds of recepies, but I've never found any 'rules' on what's supposed to be on the table, except the jams, cranberry sauce and the turkey ( ! ). I usually make this hot salad thingy that I found a recepy for the first year and it's been a big hit every year (don't ask me what it is, I can't remember right now, but there's some bacon and carrots in it)

We usually have it at Christmas, with a big ham and sometimes roast lamb.
That's very cool! One dish I think sounds a bit gross for Thankgiving is candied yams - potato and marshmallows, yuck.

Doesn't it sound disgusting! Bleh. Ham is yummy, but I always leave that to my mum. We usually cook it on the BBQ.

Very much so yes! hehe, same here, I wouldn't dare mess with the x-mas ham. My parents make it in the oven actually and my dad always puts this mustard thing on the outside of it that give it a great extra tasty bit to it.

I think cooking it on the BBQ is an Australian thing - we cook everything on it! We put mustard stuff on ours too.
