helms deep battle was my fave absolutely loved it and when Haldir the elf died and he was looking around at all the bodies i was feeling so sad
i like the first one, you get to see a little calmness and serenity before everything starts to go dark and dangerous

i agree with ya there buddy PJ was smart starting it off with the Last Alliance battle scene from the past knowing that there would be no real action in the first 40 mins or so i think the trilogy just kept getting gradually better and better as it went along which is not easy to do as seen with other trilogys where one has usually let down entirely

Which trilogies are you thinking of?
I agree that Lord of the Rings got better as the movies progressed.

Godfather was good Godfather 2 was awesome but Godfather 3 sucked
Scream 1 was awesome Scream 2 was good Scream 3 sucked
Die Hard 1 was awesome Die Hard 2 sucked Die Hard 3 was good
and then regarding the Alien Quadrilogy
Alien 1 was good Aliens was awesome Alien 3 sucked Alien Resurection was awesome but gets an upgrade to kicks ass seeing as it was done by Joss Whedon
of course these are my personal opinions and you may totally disagree, let me know

Scream 2 sucked as well. The third Die Hard movie sucked. The others I pretty much agree with. There is also the last 3 Star Wars movies that were made that all sucked.

The last three Star Wars movies did not suck. They weren't as good as the original trilogy but they didn't suck.

ive not seen revenge of the sith but i liked attack of the clones, phantom menace was ok
it was always going to be hard to do carry ons from a 20 year old trilogy
we will see how the new indiana jones and die hard movies fare this coming year, see if they can pull it off after some time off

Revenge of the Sith is a better movie than Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones. I don't think they are close to being as good as the originals but still not complete crap.
The new Indiana Jones movie is likely to suck. Its been too long to try to continue with Harrison Ford.

Phantom menace was complete crap. Clones was also crap. Sith was barely watchable. I am still bitter they ruined my favourite trilogy with prequels.
I agree the new Indy movie is probably going to be very bad.

Star Wars ThreadNicely off topic guys Use the Star Wars thread above to talk about those movies and feel free to start a thread on trilogies - in fact its probably a great thread idea, and leave this discussion for LoTR discussion. Btw - I agree with Shaun and Bre. They didn't suck. Oh maybe Phantom Menace sucked a little.

All this talk of movies has made me go and escape into my favourite trilogy of all time. I just finished watching Fellowship and i am still a little teary eyed. It starts the moment Aragorn refuses to be drawn by the power of the Ring and allows Frodo to leave. And then when he turns round that corner and he just looks at those Uruk Hai and you just know that they are going to die. When he puts the sword to his forehead and just strolls towards them with no fear i just cant help but go all teary. And then to add to that Boromir's amazing defending of Merry and Pippin. I reckon he potentially killed more Uruks than the rest of them if you look at the litter of bodies surrounding him. When he gets shot with that second arrow and he's on his knees and looks at the Hobbits faces, and you see in his eyes that he feels he has let them down and he still continues to fight. And then his dialogue with Aragorn just before he dies just sets me off even more. Finish that off with
Aragorn : They will look for his coming from the White Tower, but he will not return
Thats it i'm gone *blubs*
Now Enya's song is on and im just weeping even more because its so beautifully sad.

There there, Glenn. It's only a movie. I just finished watching all the commentaries on the Extended Editions and now I'm watching the making of the FotR. WETA and Richard Taylor are just genius!

Yeah yeah... Just because I can look past Liv Tyler in those elf ears... I just don't see them as brilliant movies. They're entertaining, there are some beautiful effects, but really, in many ways, they're glorified fluff.

i think all the battle scenes were a bit too much, there was so much going on onscreen that you missed most of the action, i always say less is more, thats what i tell my girlfriend anyway

Oh my goodness! You guys are like dissing my Bible. I agree that less is more Paul, and that's why I loved the battle scenes. When I watch movies like Braveheart and such the battle scenes are too much, but in LotR there was the right amount of watching the heroes fight, not too much gore, and those were a huge part of the books. And I definitely don't think they're overrated. If anything a lot of them are underrated and the trilogy is only seen as beautiful effects and people don't realize how incredible the story is. And I don't think anyone except Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh could have taken Tolkien's story, turned it to film, and make it work like they did. They had to leave some things out otherwise the films would have been waaaay too long, and you would have seen much more battle scenes. They're perfection.

Agreed. I i remember telling Allan that they were perfection in chat spam last night.
There isnt a single part of those films that makes me want to fast forward or turn off completely. Some of the emotions that film inspires in you, particularly the third film with all the suicide missions our heroes were going on to ensure the continued existance of Middle Earth and there loved ones.
