People have been discussing LoTR already in the Harry Potter topic, but the conversation can be moved here. thanks.
I think we were discussing the movie compared to the books. the movies were much better imho. books were too longwinded, as Bernie already mentioned.

the first one is probably the worst out of all three, but i still liked it. my problem with it is the first hour. i sometimes skip through to when they have reached the elves.

The Lord of the Rings Trilogy is fantastic. Just couldn't get into the books - the first one seemed a little childish.
Loved the Legolas/Gimli competitivness and also Liv Tyler - she looked so beautiful.
The scenery was also awesome. It's made me want to visit New Zealand.

yeah i want to go to NZ one day. The books are anoying cause they are badly written. great story, but the books just drag out so much. movies were way better imho.

Lord of the Rings were three brilliant movies, but the extended versions were far superior to the cinema released versions. The first one is overrated in my opinion, but the last two were awesome.

I agree that the EE were better than the TE. But I disagree on the first one being overrated. It was the best one, imo. The way PJ portrayed the characters right away was fascinating!

No no the first one took took long to get into the story. Sam and Frodo were too gay. You're supposed to love Frodo he's the hero, and I spent most of the first movie wanting to kick his ass.

Well, you're not gonna change my mind. It was my favorite one. I didn't think we needed to love Frodo as the hero, he annoyed me in the books just as much as he did in the films.

But the second two had the big fight scenes. They were what made the movies so awesome! No walking around looking for Mount Doom, we had action! Lots of action!

Oh yes, the fight scenes were definitely kickass, and Viggo.. man did he look good! What was your favorite battle scene?

Tough choice. The final battle in Return of the King has to win but its a close call.

When they're at the Black Gate? or at Pelennor Fields? I'm still not sure which is my favorite battle scence. I'm thinking probably the Two Towers one at Helm's Deep. But my favorite fight scene is in FoTr when Strider is fighting the wraiths on Amon Sul (weathertop). Very cool.

The Black Gate wasn't much of a battle. Pelennor Fields. The Aragorn fight was pretty sweet but not to the scale of the bigger fights. Helm's Deep kicked ass.

Yup yup, most definitely. Pelennor Fields was great. I loved when the Army of the Dead fought, made things a little easier for the good side.

My favourite one was also at Pelennor Fields. Legolas getting up on that elephant was hot. And the whole fight was just wicked The Army of the Dead looked cool going through Gondor, killing all the orcs.
