I didn't find it flat at all. I thought everyone looked like they were having a ball. The scheme was a good one too. And i thought ditching the women was a great idea. I didn't think ditching the women was a good idea. I missed Robert's character. I thought 12's scheme was better than this one. They didn't have that twist in the end which kind made the movie anti-climatic for me.

Ditching the women was wise. While i liked Julia's turn in the second one what would she have done in Thirteen? She would have been superfluous. And i really didn't need to see anymore of Zeta Jones character. I wasn't a fan.
Anyway, probably shouldn't say anymore or it will get ruined for everyone else.

Catherine Zeta-Jones' character wasn't great in 12. That said, I thought it wasn't so much they they "ditched" the women, as much as the actresses weren't available for the movie.

American History X:
One of my favorite movies ever, I love the dark tone of it and the use of flashbacks. It has such strong characters and it's so gutwrenching and amazing. 9.5/10

Really? I would have thought Julia would have been asked, at least, since she's one of Soderberg's "in crew"... Catherine, maybe not - her character was pointless in the second, and she didn't bring much to it.

I doubt Roberts would be involved even if she was asked as she was pregnant during film right? I didn't care much about Zeta-Jones' character - I prefer Roberts character over hers. Btw, has anyone watched Black Snake Moan? I've heard good reviews on it but still undecided whether to watch it or not.

I haven't seen Black Snake Moan, but I think it looks very interesting, and I'm going to rent it as soon as I see it out

Catherine, maybe not - her character was pointless in the second, and she didn't bring much to it. Mm, she hasn't done any non-voice work for a few years because she's been focusing on her kids. She just had another one. So, that's probably part of the reason.

Fully recomend Requeim for a Dream, will put you off drugs for life. The cinematography for it is freaking awesome as well. Apparently other Darren Aronofsky films are good as well.
Also Donnie Darko.
Maybe I just like really f**ked up films. This genre 'psychological thrillers'

Just having posted in another thread mademe think of this one. I'd recommend "The Forgotten." It's a, I guess it would be considered a psychological thriller, about a man and woman (not related) who are told their kids never existed but the woman just can't believe that. It came out a couple years ago, and since most of you are more up on your movie viewing than I am, it's likely you've already seen it, but I thought I'd mention it in case it tickled anyone's fancy.

I agree with Marie. That's definitely a movie worth watching. I thought it was great. I haven't gone through the whole thread, and I'm sure at least a few of you have seen it, but I really recommend Rent. It's such a great movie/musical.

I've been meaning to catch Rent but haven't had the time. Might rent the DVD soon. This might not be in the cinemas still but I recommend you guys to catch Hot Fuzz when it comes out on DVD. Hilarious movie. Thought it was even funnier than Shaun of the Dead.

I'll second the Hot Fuzz motion. It is a hilarious movie. It hits DVD here on Wednesday. And I'll also recommend Knocked Up. Very funny, and it has a lot of heart.

Has it really been six months since anybody's seen a movie worth recommending? I'll recommend Sunshine, Danny Boyle's latest sci-fi movie. It's a lot more understated than most of his movies, and it revolves a crew heading into outerspace with an "artificial sun" to replace the dying one, and therefore, save humanity. The movie seemed to fly under the radar, and never got much publicity. I thought it worked really well, though some people have complained about the third act (which, admittedly, is a little "different"), but personally I thought it worked. It's "smart" sci-fi, and quite slow, but there is some stunning imagery and the characters and performances are fantastic. Well worth your time.

I second the Sunshine recommendation. I also recommend I Am Legend. I thought it was a really good movie and Will Smith did a good job in holding up the movie on his own. Not much make-you-jump horror in it but it was still scary. Can get a little slow at the beginning but it was justified.

Can get a little slow at the beginning but it was justified. I'll also recommend it, but I thought it was better during the slow beginning (or two thirds). Toward the end, it lost the plot a bit and got a little too actiony and "Hollywood" though it didn't succumb as far as I was expecting it to (and dreading as the climax began). I thought it was quite good for the most part, though.

But on hindsight, I think it work really well. But I can't help but compare the 'monsters' in the movie to vampires.

They were vampiresque. They struck me as a cross between vampires and zombies.
