Ah ok. I see your point. As for the acting. I do agree that there is bad and good acting in both. I mean I don't really like Ewan's acting in eps 1, 2 & 3. But I have seen more corney moments in eps 4, 5 & 6. . You think Ewan was bad in the prequels? Tell me you're joking. I think he held a lot of scenes together. If it wasn't for him...well, the prequels would be in worse shape. When it comes to the acting I have always seen the originals as having the better actors. Actually, now that I think about it there was a lot of good acting in the prequels, but since Hayden Christenson took up so much space it seems like all the acting is bad. I've always thought Ewan, Christopher Lee, Ian McDiarmond and Liam Neeson played their parts wonderfully. As for corny moments, I always thought they were done on purpose. I agree with Loz and Shaun about the special effects. George was so focused on using special effects that he forgot the story is what's most important. It's actually upsetting because the story in the prequels has a lot of potential, but until Revenge of the Sith it didn't come out. Oh, speaking of story, you guys have to hear this. The other day I was at a friend's house and her other friend was there and we all watched Episode IV. The other friend said it had no story and should be completely redone. I was in shock. Needless to say he got a mouthful He even had the nerve to talk bad about Obi-Wan! Sorry, but talking bad about Obi-Wan is not ok.

A universally acknowledged opinion. Except for the younger set who have no attention span and put more emphasis on the flash and bang. And like Shaun said IV, V and VI are better because they have a better story and plot and better acting. That's sort of a generalization. Sure I'm from the younger generation whatever, but I know how to appreciate a good film. I enjoyed the new trilogy just as much as the old and not because of the special effects. It's pretty laughable when you question their opinions, RJ, that's the whole point of the thread. I think there was both good and bad acting and in both trilogies. And I see the saga as one big story, but like Shaun said told from different perspectives.

The bad acting can mostly be blamed on Hayden as Anakin. They needed a decent actor in the main role, and he couldn't pull it off. Han and Leia had some cheesy lines too but they didn't bother me, whereas Anakin and Amidala made me cringe whenever they were onscreen together in epiosodes II and III I prefer all three originals to any of the newer ones.

The Han/Leia relationships has to go down as one of the greatest onscreen romances. Anakin/Amadala however, hands up who actually cared. When Han and Leia finally hooked up it was a "hell yeah" moment. Plus there were several other "hell yeah" moments that i just didn't feel in the later trilogy.

Completely agree Glenn. The Han/Leia romance is one of the best onscreen. The 'I know' moment floors me till this day. Anakin and Amadala we knew had to happen so that pretty much killed it from the get go in my opinion. And while i guess i cared i didn't buy it for one second.
And Bre, i didn't say it was every single member of the younger set who likes I, II and III for the the flash and bang, i said that seemed to be the general consensus. And i'm sorry no one will ever convince me, or millions of other people, that the newer trilogy is superior to the original. Because i simply don't believe it is. For many many reasons.

The Anakin/Amadala relationship was a given, so it was just a matter of waiting for it to happen. Add to that Hayden's incredibly wooden acting and a complete lack of chemistry with Natalie, and it was just bleh.

I think its very hard to judge on what's good acting and what's bad acting. I really enjoyed Hayden's acting, mainly in episode 3. But I didn't enjoy Ewan's much.

What's hard to judge? If they're not believable or if it's uncomfortable to sit through their scenes, that's a good sign they're a bad actor. Hayden was no where near as good as Ewan. You could tell when they were in a scene together, Hayden's acting got better because of Ewan but I didn't think he was good. I think he was mediocre. He still has a lot more to learn. He's pretty inexperienced so I think that had a lot to do with it. EM on the other hand is experienced, and that showed, imo. I was really disappointed with the lack of chemistry between Hayden C and Natalie Portman.

Obvuiously you do find it difficult to judge acting. Hayden was very wooden, and he couldn't emote without going over the top. Ewan was charming, and gave a brilliant impersonation of Alec Guinness.

I think acting ability is one of the easiest things to judge actually. And if you plan on studying film then you better work on that Ewan acted circles around Hayden. He did a great job with what he was given. I would say he was the best cast member by far actually. Natalie was also very good. While she struggled with some of the hideous dialogue she was admirable i thought. She had no chemistry with Hayden though. Watching them together was sometimes uncomfortable.

It definitely wasn't the performance of Natalie's career, and I'm usually a huge fan of hers. She did struggle, but I agree that she did well with what she was given.

So I bought Episode 3. And it gave me an idea for reviving this - who was everyone's favourite characters? Who were the least favourites? And favourite scenes with these characters?

The Ewoks were basically what Jar Jar is to the prequels, IMO. Prequel-wise, I liked Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon, but not really anybody else (which pains me considering I have to class Natalie Portman with the crap in the movies). "Real" trilogy wise, Han, without a doubt. And Vader. But Luke bugged me with his whining (that said, Anakin showed us where he got it from in the prequels ).

The Ewoks were cool when i was a kid, not so much now even though i still love the movie to death Do i really need to do favourite and least favourite in the prequels? Obi Wan i loved. Jar Jar blew. Han and Leia i adore. And R2-D2 of course. And Chewy. Vader was great. Yoda brilliant. And Luke has his moments. And Lando in Jedi. Yeah i love them all Han if pushed i guess. Least favourite Jawa's. Scared the hell out of me

See, I thought the Jawas were so much cooler than the Ewoks. I wonder if they went to war who'd win... It's funny, I never particularly liked the Ewoks in Jedi, even when I was a kid. I liked them in their movies, which is scary considering how poor they are (but I was shattered when they never got the Special Edition treatment).

How are they going to manage that? Why oh why can't things be left alone. I'd see it to see what a disaster it would be

George Lucas just can't create any new ideas so he has to try to make money off of SW. I heard they're also re-releasing Titanic in 3D.
