so what do you think? I know Sarah Michelle has been in a few movies since Buffy, but seriously, Scooby Doo? Do you think that any actor playing one part for so long will only be famous for that part?
Alyson Hannigan has done really well with the American Pie movies and How I Met Your Mother series......
*not meant to offend the ultra buffy fans out there*

She'll always be Buffy to me, and to a lot of people. Playing the one character like that, and then barely venturing out of that genre will keep her typecast unless she ever becomes more famous for another role. Its like Hayden Christenson will always be Anakin Skywalker because he's done nothing else as noteworthy, but someone like Harrison Ford is no longer typecast as Indiana Jones or Han Solo because he has done other stuff.

I'm not sure what SMG is up to doing these horror movies that aren't the best. She turned down the lead role in "Stardust" too which is suppose to be huge this summer. She is such a great actress and she just hasn't been applying herself, imo. So far I only see her as Buffy. In Scooby Doo I was waiting for her to kick some ass, and hey she did at the end. I think if she starts doing movies that show off her acting skills, she can become huge, and not only seen as Buffy.

She will definitely be seen as Buffy until she gets a role which will really show off her talents. Until that happens, she will always be sseen as Buffy. I was pretty surprise when I read that she turned down the role in Stardust (apparently she turned it down because of FPJ) and you can't help but wonder when she so-called big break will come. Hopefully it would come soon though because, as a fan of SMG, I would love to see her do some serious roles or big roles that would make her mark in Hollywood.

Personally for me she will always be Buffy no matter what she does. That's where I fell in love with her and whenever I see a movie with her as a character that isn't that strong I still expect her to in the end stand up and do a round-house kick at the badguy! I have a hard time believing her in Scream 2 because of this and even though her hair is dark these days, I still see the blond haired Buffster that we all love.
She did however make an amazing performance in The Return imho. For the first time I really looked past the Buffy part of her and saw her as this character and I think she did an amazing job with it.
I look forward to Addicted, Girls Guide to Hunting and Fishing (have forgotten the new title *sigh*) and to Southland Tales. Especially Addicted can help her a lot me thinks considering the cast and the character she's supposed to be playing.

She turned down Stardust? Stupid, stupid move... I'd always thought her rarely venturing outside the horror genre was due to producers only seeing her as Buffy, rather than her own choice there. I agree that she was fantastic in The Return, even if the movie itself wasn't fantastic. Personally, I hope that Southland Tales manages to find a decent audience, because the role will be different for her. As for whether she'll always be Buffy to me, in a way, yeah, she will. She owned the role. That said, when I do see her in a different role, my mind doesn't automatically go to Buffy. It does when I see the movie promoted, but not when watching her performance.

She turned it down because FPJ was doing something.
Yes, she'll always be Buffy to me. She was Buffy for such a long time.

I'm making my way through buffy again - "mommy's" just died. I think she did really well with this part. No kick-ass vamp-dusting, just a young woman who had to grow up very quickly, take care of dawn, get a job to pay bills and put food on the table, still go to school and be a slayer. SMG could really do any role, not just horror.

She turned down Stardust because her and Freddie made some kind of pact that they would work near each other or one work and the other stay close by. It's smart for keeping their relationship strong, but I would have liked to see her in that role. The Air I Breathe seems like an interesting movie. I don't know if it's out yet or what the deal is but it seems to have an interesting concept and hopefully that shows off her acting.

Hmm, would have liked to see her in Stardust.
She will always be Buffy to me because its her biggest role, plus most movies sinse then kinda fall into the kick ass female theme.

Addicted will be opening in the UK in Dec 14th and before that Southern Tales will hit cinemas so there are a couple of chances to see her do something different. I thought she was great in The Return and I never saw her as Buffy in that movie. And you can't forget her amazing role in Cruel Intentions.

I don't think she'd like to hear this, but to me she'll always be Buffy. Not because I believe she isn't capable of doing other roles. I actually think she can do anything and be just as good. But I'll always see her as Buffy. She portrayed it in such a perfect and wonderful way, and I loved her so much in it, that I don't think I'll ever be able to look at her without simultaneously thinking "Hey, that's Buffy!"

And I agree, for once I definitly didn't see her as Buffy. She really broke free and did something great! I'm glad I bought the movie the day it came out She's so evil in CI, I love seeing her there. She's like the anti-Buffy. Scheming and making evil moves and all. I could still feel Buffy in the background but that's because the movie came out while she was still on the show. Had it come out now, I don't I would have thought of Buffy right away. But in the end, I still get mesmerized by her and when I see pics of her online, I still think Buffy. Even my art that is focused on SMG gets named "buffy_##"

It all depends on the work that stars do after their big break. I'm able to see David as Booth rather than just Angel, Alyson as Lilly rather than Willow. Sarah needs to get a few more successful roles behind her

They're both strong male characters, fighting for the right thing and doing his best. I do still see David as Angel even when he playes Booth, simply because of the very big similarities.. all but the vampirepart..

why not put her in a nice rom-com or something? she could do it. part of the whole "buffy" persona was cheesy one liners and dippy behaviour.... like Willow's "it's like trying to hit a puppy by throwing a live bee at it"....

Nah Booth is a lot more open about his feelings, he deals with problems in a completely different way and he's a lot funnier than Angel was ever allowed to be

I don't know if a rom-com would do it. I think a meatier role, where she truly "acts" would probably be more in order to help people escape thinking of her as just Buffy. Cruel Intentions was mentioned earlier, and if she plays the villain a couple more times, it would definitely shift peoples' expectations of her. Still, I'm really looking forward to seeing what she does in Southland Tales.

She'll always be Buffy to me, too. Like everyone else has said, it's a big role, and she hasn't done many huge roles since Buffy ended. I think that to most people she is seen as the character Buffy, rather than any of the other characters that she's played. I might be wrong, though. It just seems like when someone mentions SMG they mention that she was Buffy.

There's also the Alice in Wonderland movie that is coming out (though I'm not sure when) where SMG plays Alice. The poster looks awesome and she really does not look like Buffy in that.
I will always see her as Buffy but not in the sense where I see her in a movie and I expect her to say Buffy-like things or do Buffy-like actions. But more in the sense of her being the one and only Buffy and nobody (even the original Buffy in the movie) could be a better Buffy than SMG.
She owns that role.
