Moving to Never Kill A Boy On The First Date
Another not great episode. There were some ok parts, loved Xander and Willow's 'double date' I liked Buffy and Cordy's competition and love Giles in this episode, but mostly... blah. The whole Anointed One concept always annoyed me, the Owen story seemed forced and the way he was at the end was silly. So... a 3/10 from me.

Just watched this episode. I have to say it was very annoying but with some good moments. I liked Buffy's "Bite Me" then we get a shot of Angel though we dont know he is a vampire yet lol. I liked Owen at first he seemed quite acceptable and when he called the vampire a sissy for trying to bite him it made me laugh. But then he turned into some thrill seeker type dude...what the...lol Giles was for me once again the star of the episode though one of favourite Xander lines is in there "You should probably know that Buffy doesn't like to be kissed. Actually, she doesn't like to be touched. As a matter of fact, don't even look at her." Absolutely cracked me up. Cordelia also gave us a few wicked lines and the "Hello salty goodness" is first uttered here lol Down sides it, introduces us to one of the most mocked villains of all time 'The Annoying One' and doesnt really do much at all besides maybe helping Buffy to realise that her duty SHOULD come before dating.
For me for some of the lines alone it gets a 6/10

I'm more fond of this episode so I'd give it atleast 7/10.
You have to look at this in the context of it being the first season so it is actually a sucessful ep. I love Xander's jelously and the shot of him looking at his tweety watch when Owen gives Buffy one as a gift, its fantastic.
Giles hiding in the morgue draws is also great and we get to know a little more about Giles and how he got to be a watcher

It just bugs me in Season 1 that they use all these extra who play quite a role and then you never see them again. They got better in Season 2 by giving some recurring appearances to people
Owen was another one of these.

I think Buffy made it fairly clear though that they wouldn't be going out again or hanging out, so I can see why he was never seen or mentioned again

She did say that she only wanted to be friends but i guess that is just something people say.
It would have been kind of cool to see him at Graduation Day. That seems the type of thing he would have loved haha

Yeh it would have made a lot of sense to see him in Graduation Day so either Joss forgot about him or the actor wasn't available

Yeah but it does also make sense that someone like Owen would have been killed between season 1 and 3. A lot of people die on the show.
Moving on to The Pack
This episode I used to hate, but it has grown on me. I've never been a fan of Xander centred eps, even though I love Xander. I like him being mean, and there are some great lines, his intereaction with Willow is good, and I love Giles "Its terrible. He's turned into a 16 year old boy, you'll have to kill him." But still, not a great ep compared to later seasons. So a 6/10 from me.

Yeh I really love Nicholas in this episode he really showed off his strengths for the first time, I didn't think much of the rest of the 'pack' though! I love the Xander/Buffy fight they'res that one moment where your not sure if Buffy will knock him out or not, but then she does and Xanders reaction to it when he woke up in the cage was great
a decent 7/10

I liked the Principal Flutie character and his fate in this episode never sat well with me. Other than that though, its not a bad episode.
This is the first episode where one of the main characters gets possessed. Not exactly the best storyline, but it works. Another good performance from Nicholas Brendon, this was one of the few times where he got to play a bad guy and he does it well. The janitor was creepy in all of his scenes so it was fairly obvious he was behind it.
Overall I would give it a 7/10

oh yeh you could tell straight away it was him. I actually liked the way Principle Flutie went out, plus it set a nice precedent for principles to be eaten! lol

I don't know if we're still doing this, but I came across it and as it hasn't been deaded yet figured I'd post my thoughts. The PackLike Beck, I disliked this episode at first but it's grown on me slowly. The idea of animal possession has been done before in other shows/movies, as it has a basis in real life. However, it really fit the monster-of-the-week set up of the first season. I really enjoyed a Xander-centric episode, even if he was evil for most of it. I liked Principal Flutie and was sad to see him go, but can't say I wasn't expecting someone to die in the episode. What follows is purely personal opinion. The GoodXANDER: We just saw the zebras mating! Thank you, very exciting... WILLOW: It was like the Heimlich, with stripes! BUFFY: And I missed it. Yet somehow I'll find the courage to live on. GILES: It's devastating. He's turned into a sixteen-year-old boy. Course, you'll have to kill him. GILES: I've been reading up on my, uh, animal possession, and I cannot find anything anywhere about memory loss afterwards. XANDER: Did you tell them that? GILES: Your secret dies with me. XANDER: Shoot me, stuff me, mount me. The BadXANDER: Cool! Oh, hey, goin' vegetarian! Huh? GILES: They, uh... ate him. BUFFY: They ate Principal Flutie? WILLOW: Ate him up? Better than mediocre and most of the dialogue is wonderful, so 6/10 (mostly for the dialogue).

Yay its good to get all the Buffy topics going again! thank you!
I agree the plot is not the strongest most compelling in the world but the dialogue is snappy and funny as hell. I love Xander so I'm always going to like an episode centered around him.

Moving on to Angel
On first viewing I loved this episode, and I still don't mind it. It has some very lame parts, the three seemed way too easily disposed of, and Buffy not questioning Angel's strength was weird. Also Darla annoys me in this episode, she's too whiny and annoying. Wasn't sad she died here (but very glad she was brought back on Ats). I love the Xander moments in this episode, he's way too obviously happy at the thought of being rid of Angel. Meh been too long since Ive seen this to give a proper review... and 8/10

It's been a while for me too. I am somewhat biased towards this episode because it is an Angel centric episode. For me this is one of the stronger episodes of Season 1 establishing a continuation of story and character arc. We do get an insight into the relationship of Angel and Darla and for the first time we get the allusion to their sado-machocistic dynamic between the two, subtly played in and links nicely to what see of Angelus later on (and Darla on Ats for that matter.)
The growing romance between Angel and Buffy gets the ultimate twist and stops it from becoming another boring 'will-they-wont-they' relationship. I also have to agree with Willow that it was romantic when Buffy assumed Angel had read her diary and embarassed she tries to cover it up her feelings but then realises he feels the same way.
I agree with how easily the three were dispatched, that was disappointing.
Overall, for me this is one of the first of the stronger episodes in the first season. The show really begins to have some depth and paves the way to become less episode of the week (although the laughable 'I Robot, You Jane' undermines that)
It gets an 8/10 from me

oops sorry I forgot
Angel is definately one of my favorite season one episodes. We finaly get to know a little more about him and of course there is the huge reveal that he's a vampire.
I think David and Sarah did a good job acting as usual there was definately a lot of sexual tension going on in that kitchen
9/10 from me

umm more thoughts on Angel.
loving Xanders jelousy thoughout the episode, but he does it in a funny way so he's not rumbbled. I also loved the way Angel never even hesitated to stake Darla, I realise that at that point Joss hadn't figured out the history between those too, but still in another circumstance he may have hesitated, I think it showed that he was more of a 'good' guy for the audience
