Ah ok. I always thought that they did belong to Joss as he was the one who created the comics. I know Buffy doesn't belong to him.

Well it's officially underway. New writer, Whit Anderson is writing the script. Here's the article. The only thing I'm glad about is that she was a fan of the original series and sounds like she is going to stay true to the characters but I am sooo afraid they are going to f**k everything up without Joss. And here is Joss' reaction to this plan. Article here.

No no no no no. Get Joss on board or I am boycotting it. Who are they getting to play the roles?

Oh I doubt they are using any of the same cast. I got those links from a couple different Jossverse actors who are pretty disappointed in this (Emma Caulfield, Felicia Day) from Twitter so I think it's going to be all new people.

No no no. Do NOT like this at all. I wouldn't have minded if it was Joss writing/directing it without the original actors (though I doubt it would happen as I believe almost everyone would jump at the chance) but now? Don't think I'll watch it. Well, no, I would. Just to see how crap it is. Oh I doubt they are using any of the same cast. I got those links from a couple different Jossverse actors who are pretty disappointed in this (Emma Caulfield, Felicia Day) from Twitter so I think it's going to be all new people. Julie Benz also mentioned she's against it. I wonder what NB's and AH's reaction would be. :-\

I don't know. I know Amber Benson is against it too. Though she said this which was pretty funny: "Well, @phoenix_Ranger, they asked me to play the penis montster from 'Double Meat Palace' in the reboot & I said that Tara doesn't do dick." Juliet Landau and Alexa Davalos are annoyed with it too. It really is too bad. I mean they will make money off of it because all the Buffy fans (no matter how much they say they hate the idea) will see it out of curiosity but man it sucks!

I hate the idea of a new movie Buffy without Joss. But, I will probably watch it when it comes to DVD and just rent it. I don't think it will be a worthy enough movie to go to the cinema for or to buy on DVD. And, knowing the trend that is happening at the moment it will probably be released in 3D which will only add to the tackiness. I can't believe that Joss has no say. You would think that he would have been smart enough to keep the rights to something when he sold the scripts. I think they are just trying to milk it for every single last drop they can. WB know that Buffy still has a huge following and that now there is a whole new bunch of teenagers that are already in love with the whole vampire thing. All they see is $$$, they aren't thinking about whether it will be of any actual value or not.

A lot of things have been remade without the original writers and directors involved. Joss has done it with other people's projects too.

I personally don't feel an entire series get's destroyed with one bad movie or bad extra season so I would rent it, I wouldn't pay to see it at the cinema though.
Vampire tv shows & movies are big money makers so if you want to make money from it what better way than using the name of a show with a huge following already. It's pretty clear it's all about the money.
I wonder how much of Sunnydale will actually change in the script?.

A lot of movies are all about the money. The script has been written by someone who was a big Buffy fan and as long as it isn't complete shit there is no reason the movie will be terrible. Sure it would probably be better if they got some of the original Buffy writers on board but it isn't destined to fail just because Joss isn't involved. Look at all of the remakes of popular characters, look at The Avengers, is that going to fail too because it is new people (including Joss) involved?

Personally I'm so sick of all these sequels and remakes. I don't care if they turn out great (they usually turn out alright because we already love the characters) it is still unnecessary and uncreative to be writing movies that are unoriginal (yes including The Avengers). I'd much rather have an awesome brand new story than another awesome Batman. But that's where the money is, in the sequels/remakes. I'm disappointed that this Buffy movie is being made. I'm glad the writer is a Buffy fan but I think they should just leave it alone.

I'm with Bre. I hate there are so many remakes and sequels lately. I would love to have a original movie than another superhero movie or a reboot of an old movie. I was hoping that Buffy would be the one thing that would remain untouched but it's not. If the whole popularity with Twilight never happened, would a Buffy movie still happen? I doubt it. I don't know what I'll do if this movie becomes successful and the PTB decides to reboot the TV show. #rolleyes# EDIT: There's a FB page ( www.facebook.com/ImwithJoJo ) launched in an effort to show Warner Bros. that no Buffy fans want this Buffy reboot to happen without Joss Whedon‘s involvement. Not sure how that's gonna help but a FB page did get Betty White to host SNL so anything can happen.

Are you saying you are completely against a Buffy movie? or you are only against it if Joss isn't involved because I am confused

I'm against a Buffy movie without Joss and/or the original characters. If he does it, it would be a continuation of the series as he has come out and said he would continue where season 7 left off.
I'm against a Buffy reboot where everything will be changed, which is what's happening now.

I would rather nobody do it, including Joss. Of course if it was to be re-booted, then I'd want Joss involved, but I'd rather it go untouched. It ended well. No need for a continuation.

Without Joss I'm not all that keen, it was his vision and it's not the Buffy we all love without him (even look at the eps where he was off Fireflying- noticeable difference to most people). But still, I'll reserve judgment till I've seen the finished product.
As far as the reboot, recycle, rehash thing goes its simply fact there are very few absolutely original stories left out there. This trend is going nowhere. And anyway what was the last truly original piece of mainstream cinema? Inception probably. And I hated that! One more scene of a falling van and I was going stab myself! Just because it's new doesn't automatically make it awesome IMO.

Well obviously. And I do not believe that there are few absolutely original stories left out there. That's bogus. They just aren't being showcased because they are overshadowed by the big blockbuster reboots. Most people would rather see more Batman and Iron Man than a brand new character. You're the only person I know who hated Inception. I thought it was a great movie. I don't think that just because it's new it's awesome, but just because it's a reboot of good characters doesn't make it awesome either. Anyway. Yeah I'll see the Buffy movie. But I'm not happy about it. I hope it's good. I just doubt it will be up to Buffyverse standards.

Not bogus at all. There are very few absolutely original stories. Hasn't been for a really long time. Hell, one of the first things you quickly learn in the study of film is the 7 basic plots/stories of which pretty much all movies are one or a combination of. Name any film and i'll fit it into one or more of the 7 quite easily And so what if its a brand new character? Doesn't automatically make the story, ideas or the themes original in any way. I saw Inception with someone who also hated it She wanted to walk out And there was a lot of discussion on my film folder at work too.

Hmmm I'm extremely curious as to what those 7 basic plots are. I think most Aranofsky or Lynch movies are unlike anything I've ever seen before and they're mostly brilliant. I can't think of any other movie like my favorite, Raging Bull. Hell if there are only 7 basic plots I want to see a movie with an 8th plot/story. I don't think it's impossible, I just think when it comes to making movies, studio execs want that above all so they stay away from anything completely original out of fear of a blockbuster failure.
On a related note, Kristy Swanson apparently expressed interest in the Buffy movie. She said she understands that Joss is brilliant but she loves Buffy so she doesn't care who makes it.
