Swanson probably wants to be part of it so she can be big again - or at least be back on the Hollywood map. I don't see how a Buffy movie without the Scooby Gang would be good.

I liked the original movie before I liked the series so it could work. I dunno though, I'd prefer a movie done with all the scoobies rather than a reboot. But as long as it is done justice I suppose I am ok with it. Also was lying when I said I wouldn't see it cause I think I'd have to, though I would be tempted not to if I heard Joss was unhappy with the final project.

Screenwriter Whit Anderson has dismissed reports Glee star Heather Morris will take over from Sarah Michelle Gellar as Buffy The Vampire Slayer in a new reboot.
The long running TV series, which began as a 1992 film starring Kristy Swanson, is being re-imagined for a big screen outing, with a new actress playing the cheerleader-turned-vampire hunter.
Morris, who portrays ditsy cheerleader Brittany in Glee, was rumored to be in the frame for the title role - but Anderson has shot down the rumors, insisting work on the film has not even begun yet.
She tells The Hollywood Reporter, "We're not even thinking about casting yet. The script isn't even written!"
So let the speculation begin!
Who would like to see play Buffy? I don't know why but I immediately thought of Kaley Cuoco.

I'd prefer they cast an unknown.

Obviously I would love to see SMG in the role, but if not, I agree with Beck, cast a newbie!

Sarah Michelle Gellar is too old if it is a reboot and even if she wasn't I doubt she would be involved. It will likely be someone unheard of or someone from some shitty American TV show.

My guess is also some teenie-bopper from a crappy american tv show. Probably some buzz girl with minimal acting skills and a "is it a boob job" resume. It also irks me that Buffy is described as a cheerleader that kills vampires. She was a cheerleader in the original movie but the one attempt she made for the team in Sunnydale ended badly and early on in the series. It's not the point. The point is that she is a strong female character that doesn't fit the hero stereotypes.

Charisma Carpenter On A Possible 'Buffy' Remake: "Personally I Think It Stinks"
Ever since Warner Bros announced plans to do a movie remake of the hit TV series, Buffy the Vampire Slayer last year, the show's creator Joss Whedon and stars Sarah Michelle Gellar and Nicholas Brendan have all publicly called the idea to reboot the series a terrible one.
Now, half-Spanish actress Charisma Carpenter tells Latina.com what she thinks about the idea to reboot Buffy. "Personally I think it stinks," said Charisma, who played the popular high school mean girl Cordelia Chase on the hit series. "It's just an opportunity to take something that was loved and cherished and lucrative and franchise it—and make more money from it."
Last year, when plans to reboot the series were first announced, it was widely reported that Warner Bros was not looking to hire Joss Whedon (the creator of the TV show) to direct the movie adaptation. Charisma says excluding Joss is also a really bad idea. "I'm on Twitter, I'm @allcharisma, and all of the fans that are on my Twitter say, 'that makes no sense. Why wouldn't they involve Joss?' she says.
"To not include the creator is insulting," she adds.
We asked Charisma what she would think if Warner Bros were to recast all of the roles from the hit show—including her character Cordelia Chase—with a new generation of actors. "They do that with a lot of shows," she replied. "Gilligan's Island did that. Lots of shows over the course of history have recast— but it was never like the first time. The chemistry between each of our characters and the years that we had to develop it—you know, these people that I worked with, I worked with for seven to eight years of my life from Monday through Friday and it was very intense long hours. So to duplicate that, good luck,' she said.
But Charisma does have an idea that she thinks will help the reboot. "Just leave it alone," she says. "Leave good alone. It was brilliant what it did and what it meant to people is sentimental. To try and cultivate that with a whole new group—for what? The answer is that it's money and that's not a good motivation for anything," she said.
We asked Charisma if she still hangs out with some of her old Buffy pals. "Yes!" she said. "I'm in touch with David {Boreanaz} and Julie {Benz} mostly and a little bit of Alyson Hannigan. I adore Amy Acker. I would be happy to visit with them again. We hang out!" she said.

I don't care what the actors think of the reboot, but I do care what Joss thinks. I agree too that leaving Joss out of it is disrespectful and that it is far too early to make a new Buffy movie.

I agree, it is disrespectful they should be chasing him down to have his partcipation, they should be so lucky.
I am not against a remake, they could make a million horrible buffy movies it won't change my opinion of the show or ruin anything BTVS for me but I am against using the name PURELY for quick monetary gains (and by that I mean because Buffy already has a solid fanbase who will check out any new btvs) .

I don't like or hate him and I agree Dominic Monaghan is a terrible choice for spike. I don't like Jennifer Lawrence as Buffy either, but some of them would be pretty good. Not that I want another Buffy movie at all
