Finished the series. I knew what was coming with Ned but I still hoped and hoped... and wanted to kill Joffrey. Felt sympathy for Sansa too even though I hate her. All in all this series was incredible. Any of you that haven't seen it yet - watch it! Just be warned it can be a little.... gruesome

I have seen the first series and have read all the books except the latest one just released. Really like them. i enjoy things set in medieval times which is why i initially started watching the show (and of course the legend that is Sean Bean) and its got all the ingredients for an enjoyable show. Reading the books is a little more disturbing than watching the programme because you realise the girls, such as Dany are only 13 and they are all introduced to grown up situations very young.
My favourite characters in Season 1 of the show were probably the same as everyone else, Tyrion and the Stark family. I enjoy watching Jon Snow on the tv but find his chapters in the books rather slow.
Without giving too much away, characters that i now enjoy from later books are Jamie *shockhorror* and also a "wench" named Brienne.
A game is coming out called GoT : Genesis which looks quite good but seeing as though they have never made a free roaming LotR game i doubt they will make GoT free roaming even though i would love to travel all over westeros and beyond!

I am glad they made them all a little older in the series, I was also a little taken aback by the young ages in the book. Though it was set 100's of years ago and that was the age people were seen as old enough for marriage and such. I'm still halfway through book two, been a bit slack

Once i started reading i couldnt stop. I just HAD to know what was going to happen. I liked some of the scenes that were added that werent in the books and there were a few i didnt. For example.
The fight between Jamie and Ned. Was waiting for these two to come to blows and when i saw how easy Jamie killed Neds bodyguard i was actually worried for Ned. And i liked that they had an outsider intervene so you never quite know who would have Won!
Also Ned saving Arya when he tells the man from the nights watch that she is on the statue.
Things i didnt like so much was the prostitute that Theon Greyjoy has a thing was completely created for some random sexual scenes. I mean the bit when she goes to Kings Landing and has a full on lesbian romp so Littlefinger can have a lot of needless exposition where he pretty much tells us that he is going to betray Ned. Kinda took the shock value away.
Also the fact we miss a decent battle as Tyrion gets knocked out cold before it when he actually fights bravely and survives. In the book its clear his dad has pretty much sent him off to die!
To anyone else who has read the book and watched the show. Were there any bits you wanted to see and didnt, or clever additions you liked?

Did you read the books first or watch the series first? I watched half the series before I started reading book one but I finished the book by about episode 6 so from then on I had the book for reference.
I hated that they made Daenerys and Drogo's marriage consummation into a rape on the show. There was no need for it imo, it just made it look more unrealistic that Dany would be so willing to try to learn to please him. I also wished they had made her look pregnant, she's supposed to be close to giving birth when her spell to save Drogo goes wrong and she barely looks 4 months pregnant!
Hmm what else. I liked the Wall scenes better in the book than I did on the show.

I watched the first half of the tv show and then bought the books. But i didnt want to spoil myself at first so i only read up to the point we were at ion the show and then watched another episode and then read the corresponding chapters to see how they differed and so on. But then i couldnt wait for the next season to air so just carried on with the books.
I am reading A Dance with Dragons at the moment and its a bit weird because A Feast With Crows and A Dance with Dragons is one book split up in the same way The Two Towers was split up, geographically rather than chronologically. Im wondering how they will do it if it comes to the show. Personally i hope they do it the way Peter Jackson did and mash it together rather than just focusing on one set of characters in one season and then rewind time and go through it all again with the other characters.
Which would you rather?

I definitely would want it split but I haven't read that far yet, haven't found a lot of time to read lately

I've started watching the show (up to ep 2 now) and it's much better than the book. Wasn't too thrilled about the book until the last few chapters where it got exciting. The show certainly got me interested in the story that happened during the first 3/4 of the book. Loving that they are following the book to closely. And the characters are cast very well that I knew almost immediately who was who - especially the children. Once I'm done with the show, I might just start reading the second book.

Up to ep 4 now. Fav characters from the book were Jon, Ned and Arya. And I quite liked Cat too. But in the show, I don't really like Cat. Not sure why. Everyone else are my favourites on the show as well. I like Jon more in the show now. ;D

I was really impressed with how close the show stuck to the books. And Tyrion my be my first dwarf crush ever.

Finished it a few days ago. Loved it! Made me like the books even more in my opinion. Ned's death still shocked me even though I knew it was gonna happen. The last scene with Daney and the dragons were awesome. The dragons are cute! I must say the kids in the show are awesome. Especially Joffery. Looking forward to season 2 now. But I've decided I can't wait that long and thus, I"ll going to read the book. ;D

Does anyone else think that Cersei is a lot more cruel and cold in the book than in the show?

They tried to make a few of the characters a bit more likeable in the show. Some of her actions are explained a bit later but she's still a pretty big bitch.

She seems too nice for my liking. Hopefully, in season 2 they show her evil side a lot more.
