Black Panther - Excellent movie. Top shelf in every department. Three of the best, toughest, most interesting and strong female characters I’ve seen in a long time. Marvel have done it again.

Shape of Water - I don't get the fuss over it. It was good but not mind-blowing like everyone is painting it to be. It was just weird for me.
Black Panther - pretty good. Though I thought the story was a bit average.
Lady Bird - I really thought this would be my kind of movie but I was bored! Lol. I had to watch it twice but yeah. Still boring.

I'm of the same opinion on Black Panther. I loved the characters, especially the women, and visually it looked great but I found the story very average.

The smaller scale story really worked for me. I think films like Black Panther are the way forward for Marvel. The world can only be in peril so many bloody times. Avengers: Infinity War, which will feature practically every single cat who has ever been in a Marvel film, is the time for that. Just telling T’Challa’s story, as opposed to the more expanded “the entire planet/ galaxy /universe could end” stuff is spot on IMO. This was essentially a family saga, and I thought it was great. The only thing I felt was unnecessary was the ships flying off Wakanda bit. To me that felt tacked on, like they needed more to be at stake. There was enough at stake personally with family and friends I thought. shred I didn’t think Lady Bird was boring, but I didn’t think it was anything too special have to say. I think SR and LM were fabulous though. Both deserving of their nominations and acclaim. TOTALLY disagree on The Shape of Water! I found it beautiful. But GDT is probably an acquired taste.

TOTALLY disagree on The Shape of Water! I found it beautiful. But GDT is probably an acquired taste. Usually indie movies like this have some plot to it - an objective. But this doesn't? I don't know how to explain it but to me, nothing seems to be going in the movie. Both times I watched it, I switched off halfway through. But I agree that the performance of Ronan and Metcalf was great. They deserve their accolades. As for TSOW, I can't get over the fact she can fill up a whole bathroom so easily! Hawkins performance in it is amazing though. So is Doug Jones.

Yeah, that was pretty WTF I admit But it was so pretty Hawkins is amazing. FMc has it in the bag I think, but man, wouldn’t be undeserved going to her.

Btw, did anyone else get Lion King feels while watching Black Panther? Especially in the scene with the ancestors. So Mufasa-like. Lol.

Paddington 2. I seriously that bear. A lot. Great film. Just perfect. Isn't it beautiful. I read 12 (apparently there're loads more!!) Paddington stories to the boys this term, and they just LOVE him. We watched the first movie and then ate marmalde on handmade rolls. Adorable.

It’s divine. I liked the first a lot, but the sequel is better. Hugh Grant is truly brilliant I had a Paddington bear when I was little but it got lost. Sucks.

I really need to watch this Paddington movies. Saw Annihilation on Netflix. It's not too bad. The ending was WTF (in a good way). I really need to read the books.

You really must. They are both awesome A couple of the cats on the Empire film podcast are as obsessed as me. People thought they were joking when they said it was movie of the year, then the tweets, emails etc kept coming in agreeing as more and more people saw it

Fantastic Mr Fox. I can't believe I haven't seen it - it's been out for 9 years! I read the book to the boys last term (they LOVED it) and I think Wes did an amazing job adapting it. Love his films. Will eventually see Isle of Dogs...

I'm torn between whether or not to watch Isle of Dogs. I'm not a fan of stop animation (didn't see Fantastic Mr Fox) but I've heard great things about this one.

I like the look of it. I want to see A Quiet Place next though. EB and JK are awesome and I have only heard positive things. Got tickets to a special screening of I Feel Pretty today. It looks fairly amusing

I saw it. It’s brilliant. I know they won’t do it, but Emily Blunt deserves an Oscar nomination for this. She is so bloody good. The kids were ok. I liked the lad a lot more than the girl, but they weren’t annoying, and I get that their mistakes are needed plot wise (though they made me think “Oh FFS! No!” ). JK does a great job in it, a great job directing it and a fabulous job writing it.
It’s terrifying in parts (especially considering alien invasion is a genuine and serious fear of mine), it really makes you think, and is hands down one of the smartest horror films I’ve ever seen. If you aren’t chicken, GO SEE IT!
