They used the word love all the time. It was thrown in our faces that this was meant to be the big 'forbidden love of all loves'. And I don't think love is corny at all, though at times it can be. I do however think Angel and Buffy's relationship was incredibly cheesy. I don't consider myself a shipper of the Buffy and Angel relationship by any means but i do appreciate and respect it for what it was. I certainly don't find it cheesy. There are moments with them together that still get to me. And always will i imagine. Furthermore i like the idea of the forbidden love of all loves. Its what got me into the show in the first place. I watched the episode Angel and thought, 'They are onto something here....' Most of the epic love stories of history and literature revolve around that very premise after all.

Wow, who would have thought this would have caused controversy, but I believe in what Angel and Buffy had, I believe it was real, because I want to believe in true love, I want to believe that one day I will walk down the aisle with someone I can't imagine living without, I think also that at that stage of your life, whatever boyfriends or girlfriends you have feel like the real thing and in those kind of relationships you do mention love a lot and you always tell them you love them, and sometimes it does hurt. I know I always tell my boyfriend I love him and I do with all my heart because I believe that he sould always know and never doubt my love for him.

I am way too tired to reply to any of this now, but I do have one question.
Isn't this "The Bangel Club"? Wouldn't that signify that people replying here should be pro-Buffy/Angel?
If the topic was a yes, no, maybe type topic (like the Cangel thread) then both people for and aganist the couple would have all these discussions.
Not that I am aganist debate I just figured from the title of the thread it would be all pro-Buffy/Angel.
Well, whatever, we all know I am a Buffy/Angel shipper and I don't find their love corny at all. AS I said before, I'm tired and I won't be able to clearly explain why. Later, perhaps...

Well any thread is open to debate, but yeah maybe I should change the thread title. This thread is to discuss all aspects of the relationship whether people like it or not.
I don't find their love corny - I find the things they say to each other corny. Its too over dramatised and it annoys me. I find it cringe worthy to watch.
I also dislike the way Angel made all the decisions in the relationship which brings me to my biggest complaint about Angel himself - what he did to Buffy in I Will Remember You. See, I like Bangel in this episode. They are actually *gasp* happy together and it manages to stay away from being corny. Then he decides he can't be a human after all. He needs to be a vampire or Buffy will die. BAH. Buffy is a slayer - there is that risk anyway! A year and a half later she did die. So even if he thought that, instead of discussing it with her and seeing what she thought - instead of trying to make it work, after less than ONE DAY he decides to go back to being a vampire. He would not necessarily get her killed, no more than any of her other friends she protects all the time.
But anyway, even if it was the right thing to do - why then does he still want to Shanshu, become human and then be with Buffy? He had his chance to be mortal and with Buffy, he decided it couldn't work. So why want to Shanshu and pursue her later? What would be different? Nothing. So it pisses me off.

Yeah that pisses me off, but I do have a few words in Angel's defense. First, the idea of Buffy's death scares the shit out of him. Logically he knows she's the slayer and will die young, but his heart won't allow him to accept that. He has fantasies for her to have some semblance of a normal life and live happily ever after. It's not possible. He should know that, but he really doesn't. If he would have allowed himself to accept that he might have never left her--or at least never given back his humanity. The guy may have been pushing 250, but he is a complete innocent in the ways of love. Joyce says Buffy's love for Angel blinds her. I think Angel's love for Buffy blinds him too, if not more so.
He also has such self-hatred that he believes it isn't possible for Buffy to ever truly be happy with him.
When the Oracles told him Buffy would die he freaked. As I said before, his heart doesn't allow him to accept the reality that she will die young. Her death is the scariest thing for him. So he automatically begs for her life. We know Angel will do ANYTHING to protect Buffy and sacrificing his happiness is easy for him to do. He thinks Buffy will easily move on and live a healthy life without him. He doesn't realize how miserable she is without him.
All in all when it comes to Buffy, Angel does not think rationally. He just acts and at the time he thought what he was doing was right.
Okay--to their relationship in general. I don't find any corniness in it. Yeah, I'll admit there are some cringe-worthy lines, but I don't think everything they say is corny. I think everything they say is out of love and on Angel's side even the simplest words are saturated in his love for her. The unquestionable love they have for each other is beautiful.

I must join this. I'm a huge Bangel shipper and I recently finished my first Bangel video. I believe that Buffy and Angel were soulmates and their love was a complete and pure true love.

I dont deny they loved each other very much, but I will continue to argue against it being true love. It was a deep love yes, but Buffy was a teenager through it - its always true love at that age! By the time the series came to a close, Buffy had clearly moved on even if Angel hadn't completely. And watching his own show, he had moved on to Cordelia - a different love, but still a new love. Chosen imo completely went against the storylines on both shows I dont agree everyone has only one soul mate either, and though Buffy may have been one of Angel's, I don't believe he was hers.

I dont agree everyone has only one soul mate either Me either. What if they die? It seems very cruel to only give someone one chance. And what if you don't find your soul mate? As for Bangel - well, I think that Buffy will always love him, but it's not really a romantic love anymore. It doesn't seem like Buffy's nature to be stuck in the past.

I think that is the main reason why people were so pissed off with the regression that happened in Chosen when Buffy kissed Angel.

Yeah because it was completely out of character for both of them at that stage - and a slap in the face to the events in both series in those seasons.

Perhaps that was her way of letting go of him? Like, one last kiss. Like how people have the last cigarette before quiting.

We-ell on BWF people are discussing whether the age difference between Buffy and Angel is icky. My opinion goes with yes it is - she was 15 when he fell in love with her. That is icky. If it wasnt a TV show would everyone be against a 26 year old (Angel's age at death) macking on a 15/16 year old girl? Uh huh they would.

I never really took a look at it that way. The thing that creeps me out about their relationship isn't the age difference really, but that he supposedly fell in love with Buffy in LA. Like he was stalking her.... But yeah I guess the whole 15/26 age difference is a pretty big diffference.

He is always stalking her. He was stalking her in Welcome to the Hellmouth! And again in Pangs. Oh and The Girl In Question, he reveals he has people spying on her! Not good, Angel :tsk:

I think I may have posted this somewhere but apparently in the original script of Chosen Angel does mention both Conner and his love for Cordy. Unfortunately it was cut because it was too long they felt it detracted from Buffy too much.
Going back to the Chosen kiss. Maybe it means all things really do come back to Buffy. It seems in every season it always come back to her. In season 1, 2, 3 Angel implies it was pretty angsty, in 4 he called out Buffy's name and in Chosen he's jealous of Spike having a more recent relationship with her and season 5 he has people spying on her, so maybe there will always be a part of him that will love Buffy.
I wish the cordy issue could have been brought up but it would have been a heck of a conversation and I'm not sure if there was enough time.

It also would have confused the viewers that didn't watch Angel. But that doesnt excuse the blatant disregard of important storylines from both shows.

I don't care about the age difference and i don't care about the 'stalking'. I simply see it as two characters who saw something in each other and loved each other. Irrespective of all the things in the way and despite the fact that it was probably wrong.

I have to agree with Lauren on this one. I posted a few things on BuffyWorld about this i'll just find it lol
I think Angel saw her and realised what she would have to live through and he could relate to her. I think that is what made him fall in love with her. That he saw her destiny handed to her on the steps of that high school and he knew what she would have to face. He will have related her struggle with his own and when two people have something drastically in common like that, love can be formed.
Also i dont see it as a 200+ guy with a 17 year old girl. A 26 year old with a 17 year old is more accurate. Angel may have become smarter over the years but he still had the emotional maturity of a mid twenties guy and that never will change.

I agree with what Lauren and Glenn said and would also like to add that when Angel was human it was normal for a girl to be married and having children at that age. So falling in love with a 15 year old wouldn't immediately make him think it's wrong. And you can't pick who you fall in love with. I don't think Angel even really started thinking about Buffy's age until Joyce pointed it out to him in The Prom. With everything else in their life her age was a little insignificant. She was more mature than other kids her age, anyway.
